Caramel Point Siamese Cats – A Rare Variant of the Siamese Breed

Caramel Point Siamese cats are a rare and unique variant of the Siamese breed. They are related breed color of Cinnamon and Fawn points. This color point developed through a “Dilute Modifier” gene.
The dilute modifier (DM) gene only works on diluted colors like Blue Points, Lilac Points and Fawn Points. The dilute modifier gene gives brownish tone to point colors, which results in three types:

  • Blue-Based Caramel Points
  • Lilac-Based Caramel Points
  • Fawn-Based Caramel Points

Caramel Points are officially recognized as a color of Siamese cats in the UK by The Governing Council of Cat Fancy (GCCA). In the USA, they are recognized as Colorpoint Oriental by The Cat Fanciers Association (CFA).

Today, we’ll discuss all the details of Caramel Point Siamese Cats. At Siamese Cat World, we’re passionate about discussing this rare and unique breed of Siamese cats.

Color Traits:

All the Caramel Points have off-white coats and legs are slightly paler than other Siamese color breeds. Color Points of three types are the following:

  • Blue-Based Caramel Points have dark brownish blue/purple points.
  • Lilac-Based Caramel Points have paler, brownish-grey/pink points.
  • Fawn-Based Caramel Points also have paler, brownish-grey/pink points.

The points are the facial mask, ears, tail paws, nose leather, and paw pads. Their off-white coats become dark with age, so the contrast between coat color and point color diminishes.

Kittens:

Caramel Point Kittens develop their color more slowly than other point colors. They may look like blue points or lilac points in the beginning. As they mature, a brownish or caramel hue begins to overlay these cooler tones. This color change is due to a dilute modifier gene.

Personality Traits:

Caramel Points are also a social-nature  Siamese breed like other Siamese have. They love to interact with humans and make a great bond with their owners. They seek attention from their close humans around the house.

They are very vocal and communicate frequently very loudly to express their needs and desires. They are very playful and active. They enjoy playing, exploring, and playing games.

Health and Lifespan:

  • Lifespan: They typically live between 12 to 15 years, depending on their overall health and care.
  • Health Issues:
Respiratory issue due to short muzzle
    Hip dysplasia
    Asthma
